The Macomb
County Tobacco Prevention Coalition, in association with
The American Cancer Society, participated in the annual Great
American Smokeout on Nov. 16. The Great American Smokeout is
a national day designed to help smokers quit smoking, if even
for only one day. Four area restaurants also participated in
the day by becoming smoke-free for 24 hours.
The Macomb
County Tobacco Prevention Coalition, which teaches youth
about the dangers of tobacco use and encourages quitting tobacco
in all age groups, sponsored the event in Macomb County. Red
Robin in Roseville, and Country Inn restaurants in Warren, Sterling
Heights and New Baltimore all participated in the event by making
their restaurants smoke-free all day.

combat smoking among young people. |

"The whole event was based around asking people to go smoke-free
for one day," said Jamie Siefert, a community organizer
with Community Assessment Referral and Education. "It's
just asking people to quit for one day, just to see if they
feel better. It's amazing how proud you feel if you can just
go 24 hours."
