Mission Statement
The Macomb County Prevention Coalition's (MCPC) mission
is to unite law enforcement, education and community leaders
in a partnership to ensure safe, drug-free environments
for youth.
History
On December 16, 1994, the Macomb County Prevention
Coalition was formed, with the Prosecuting Attorneys
office as lead agency. Other work group members included
representatives from law enforcement, schools, community
mental health, substance abuse, juvenile court and other
concerned organizations. Block grant monies were secured
through the U.S. Bureau of Juvenile Assistance Block Grant
funds and the country-wide initiative was launched.
The MCPC has served as an umbrella organization for
ten local community coalitions,
which represent every municipality and school district
in Macomb County. Coalition membership includes youth,
parents, businesses, elected officials, media, schools,
organizations serving youth, law enforcement, religious
organizations, civic groups and health care professionals.
The MCPC has a 17-member Advisory
Council that provides technical assistance, substance
abuse prevention information and agency resources. In addition,
the current MCPC membership includes 100+ members who
represent 10 community coalitions in Macomb County.
Leadership Bios

Prosecutor Administrator in the Macomb County Prosecutor's
Office for 12 years. He served as the Chair of the Macomb
Zero Tolerance Coalition since 1994 before it merged with

forming the current Macomb County Prevention Coalition.

coordinator and Safe and Drug-Free Schools Coordinator
for the Macomb Intermediate School District since 1986.

to 28 local school systems regarding curriculum, violence

Family Services.
Coalition Goals
The MCPC and its ten community coalitions have established
the following two
goals for the drug-free communities support program in
Macomb County.
To reduce substance abuse among youth and, over
time, among adults.
To strengthen the Macomb County Prevention Coalition
with the ten
community coalitions through collaboration.
Current Project
The MCPC to Launch Marijuana Initiative this Fall
in Conjunction with the Office of National Drug Control
Policy
Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug among
America's youth. This fall, the MCPC will launch a county
wide effort to dispel popular myths about the drug. The
initiative will target youth ages 9-18, their parents
and other influential adults. It will focus on the specific
dangers the drug poses to kids.
