FRIENDS Fraser/Roseville Initiative to Eliminate Narcotics,
Drugs and Smoking
MISSION
To develop, implement & evaluate strategies that prevent,
reduce or delay youth tobacco, alcohol & other drug use.
FRIENDS Coalition was revised in 2002 in order to complement
& strengthen prevention efforts in schools & the community.
SOME ACTIVITIES SPONSORED BY FRIENDS
Fraser DARE Fair
Sponsored by the City of Fraser & Public Service Institute
at Macomb Community College
Displays include Under Cover Officers, Juvenile Liaison Officers,
area SWAT Teams, representatives from the local judicial system,
Michigan State Police Crime Lab, K-9 Officers, Traffic Enforcement
Officers, Marine Division Officers, & other area DARE &
Community Oriented Police Units.
The Fair has representatives from Richards Junior High School
& Fraser High School. Students are available to discuss
their experience in Junior High School & High School to
the visiting sixth graders. Other volunteer organizations that
work in the prevention field also attend.
A special "Parents only" display is available to any
adults attending. The room will provide parents with an actual
view of the multitude of narcotics & drug paraphernalia
that are accessible to our youth. This room is highly recommended
to visit.
Free lunch is provided. If you have any questions regarding
the fair, feel free to contact Officer Lisa Pettyes at (586)
296-8658.
The FRIENDS Coalition has been very active in the Nicotine Narcs
project sponsored by CARE & led by Jamie Siefert. Students
from our schools have been leaders in creating a Press Conference
at Freedom Hill where the results of students going out with
adults & police officers to area businesses & trying
to purchase tobacco products was highlighted.
The students also held a protest at the AMC Theater in Utica
because the theater would not run an ad asking adults not to
be drug pushers to kids by offering them tobacco products.
The students also work within their district buildings to promote
healthy life styles.
