Local Coalitions

To establish at least 10 "zero tolerance coalitions" in the county by 2005. Due to the tremendous support and hard work of the community and many professionals we were able to establish ten local community coalitions covering every part of the county by 1997, well ahead of the proposed 2005.

EDUCATION AND ANTI DRUG PROMOTIONS

• Schools within each coalition location published a "Please Talk to your Kids" Public Service Announcement video.

• Public billboards posted anti-drug messages in St. Clair Shores.

• Talking Tobacco and Smoke Scream presentations offered to 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.

• "Update 2002: Current Trends in Drug Use" conference - Chippewa Valley Coalition for Youth and Famillies

• "Youth Dialogue Day" - L'anse Creuse Community Action Coalition

• "Spring Break Alternative" - Utica Area Community Action Team

• Nicotine Narc Rally: students message to Tobacco companies to end the promotion of cigarette use - CARE

• Synar Checks-random screening of local tobacco retailers to check compliance to age requirement for tobacco purchases.

• Tobacco Retailer Education - distribute information to retailers about age restrictions for tobacco purchases

• Theatre trailer anti-drug message played in area theatres - Northwest Zero Tolerance Coalition

• May 1st Law Day Workshop- meeting of local law professionals with area students- Northwest Zero Tolerance Coalition

• "Club Drugs and the Rave Culture" - Ken Krygel, Macomb Police Academy

• A.I.M. Adults Involved in Mentoring Program - partnership with MSU Extension

• School survey "Macomb County Schools 2001 Alcohol and Other Drugs School Survey" - Macomb Intermediate School District

• "Internet Safety" - Northwest Zero Tolerance Coalition
